David Arrives in Straya

Straya.  Short for Australia.  In fact the Aussies shorten everything.  If its not shortened, its a totally different word that rhymes with it.  The Aussies are having a good time with teasing us.  We can't figure out what they are saying and ask to repeat often.  When they repeat, we take a moment to translate in our heads, while they laugh.  Good times.

We picked David up at the airport then ran back home to John's house.  David had just enough time to shower and change (more than I got, I might add) before we headed out to meet people. We met Leah, Andrew (John's daughter and son in law) at the Barn and Co Restaurant on the Mrs. Nicks Winery in Bel Marring.  We also met Sparti and his wife Natasha. Including John, David, Dan, Becky, Jenni, Tony and myself there was 10 of us altogether.  With such a big group we decided to opt for the sharing.  They bring 3 beautifully decadent courses out in perfectly timed increments.  Then you pick your entree.  I failed to get a picture of the first one which was the Blue cheese croquette.  It truly was phenomenal.

Zucchini blossom with beetroot dressing
Duck liver Pate with pear relish and pickled watermelon, umm!
Watermelon Cured ocean trout with avocado and horseradish, with pickled beets.
My entree. Barramundi (a very mild, flavorful fish) on white bean salad, salsa verde with olive paste.

David had the slow cooked prime Victoria Lamb, carrots and eggplant with hazelnut dukkah.  Which was equally pleasing to the pallet.
We were there for about 4 hours, tasting the goodness, drinking and conversing with everyone.  Great times.
We then went home, the guys piddled with the bikes and we packed up for our 'teaser 3 day trip'.  This trip is going to be nice because it gives us a trial run on packing in general and what fits on the bikes.  This trip was designed this way because it takes us the opposite way we are going.  We will be spending 3 days to get to, ride and return from the Great Ocean Road.  It will be interesting because its a holiday weekend here in Australia.  Labor Day weekend.  More tourists.  We should fit right in. Here are some more pics of the winery grounds
